CISF came into existence in 1969 with strength of about 3000 men. Today the CISF has taken on a multi-faceted role whereby in addition to its traditional role of Industrial Security, it has also moved into new areas like Airport Security, Security of Government Buildings, Monument Security, Disaster Management, VIP Security, Delhi Metro Rail etc.

Now the Force is providing security cover to 304 units (including 58 domestic & international airports,82 Fire units and 04 pvt sector units) spread all over the country with a strength of more than 1,22,000 officers and men. It is a matter of great pride for the Force that till date 22 of its units are ISO certified for Quality Management Systems.
